Description

An antique pair of Celestial and Terrestrial 16in Globes by Gilman Joslin.
The terrestrial globe showing all the most recent discoveries including "National Park" (now Yellowstone) which provides a date post 1873. Both are set within a rotating frame in an iron cradle on three screw-in black and gilt painted tripod legs. Boston, USA.

Literature

Gilman Joslin was born in 1804 and began his career as a globe maker at the firm of Josiah Loring. Within two years he was running the company and then set up his own firm in Boston. He was joined by his son William in 1874 who continued alone, after his father's death in 1886, until 1907, .
