Vases

At Wick Antiques our most valuable and sought after vases are usually pairs of Cantonese famille verte or famille rose standing jars on stands. Very much the staple of the English country house of the 18th and 19th centuries these remain amongst our ‘best sellers’ today. Other vases, purchased by Caroline, are Meiji period pieces made from Satsuma earthenware, Arita or Imari porcelain or mixed metals. Many, as you can see from our lighting page, have been converted into lamps. However the superb pair of George III mahogany wine cisterns attributed to Gillows are one of Charlie’s purchases and would originally have stood at either end of a grand sideboard as well as the fine pair of Egyptian Royal Porphyry candelabra and vases and covers with fine quality ormolu mounts.
